The Silhouette Serenity Pavilion

The Silhouette Serenity Pavilion

In the lively embrace of Surrey's Civic Plaza, the Silhouette Serenity Pavilion is envisioned as a touchstone for community and a celebration of the city's forward march from a quiet suburb to an emerging urban hub. It seeks to be a canvas for public expression, a conduit for shared moments, and a cradle for the collective memory of its people.

The House of Future

The House of Future

The process of design and construction can be exhausting and time consuming, and the prefabricated houses nowadays are not that durable and appealing. o-bayt is the cocept enabling people to choose and customize their own homes in different sizes, appeareances and layouts by using a concept of participatory design allowing the people get involved during the process of design.

Phoenix

Phoenix

As London continues to grow, buildings are being demolished and replaced with new developments to meet the needs of ascending population. According to the London Plan 2021, in 2015 there were approximately 9.7 million tons of construction waste produced in the city. This presents a significant opportunity for the reuse of materials, as they can be used to create 4 million sqm of spaces. To take advantage of this opportunity, we propose Project Phoenix that utilizes structured demolition and reuse to efficiently allocate resources in an environmentally and economically responsible manner. Many buildings are being crushed down prematurely before their material expiration, especially reinforced concrete buildings. Concrete, the most common construction material worldwide, is also the major source of construction waste and carbon dioxide emissions. However, concrete can continue to absorb carbon dioxide even after being demolished.

Mixed and Adaptive Re-use

Mixed and Adaptive Re-use

Location & Program: The project is located at the near west side, Chicago, IL. The mission is to keep Epiphany Church and Parish hall and give these two building new programs and use existing Chase and Higgins parcel to enbed a new concept to the community. Concept: The building has a strong connection with the old traditional church and shows both similarity and comparison. They shared some similar space and texture pattern, at the same time, light and mass volumes both exist in the building for privacy requirement and opposite spatial quality.

One element of architecture

One element of architecture

The main focus of this project is to find a fresh design approach for architecture. According to Rem Koolhaas, he illustrated several elements of architecture such as floor, wall, ceilling, roof, door, window, facade, balcony, corridor, fire place, toilet, stair, escalator, elevator, ramp and etc. Not all architectures are formed by these elements, hence only few elements are involved in this project. The final purpose is to use only 1 element to create a space. Since only 1 element is allowed to apply, the approach of design will be restricted. First, choosing several elements to reform the definition, I breaks all the chosen elements apart and transform the factors into the 1 element I picked: Window. By finding the real meaning of window, the deisgn process is abstract, and combine all the factors that are substract from other elements; the final form is derived from the combination.
