East Boston addresses the pressing issue of affordable housing across diverse household types, encompassing singles, families, seniors, the workforce, and artists. Community resources are emphasized, aiming to enhance opportunities and social connectivity in the area. The guidance provided by urban and social framework studies from previous assignments is suggested for consideration in shaping project ideas. The approach encourages viewing these studies as potential sources of inspiration, allowing for independent and evolving ideas to contribute to the project's development.
I was tasked with conducting a demographic analysis focusing on the race and ethnicity of East Boston. By examining the racial and ethnic makeup, we aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of the social fabric, fostering informed decision-making processes for projects or initiatives tailored to the unique needs and characteristics of East Boston.
Site 3 has the greenway on one side and 3-story single-family residential homes on the opposite side. To work within this context, I designed two different facade types on each side of the site, one that relates to the park and fits comfortably into the residential urban context.
Creating conceptual design collages yields many benefits in the architectural and design process. These collages serve as visual narratives, consolidating diverse ideas, inspirations, and design elements into a cohesive storyboard. By amalgamating images, textures, colors, and forms, designers can communicate abstract concepts more effectively, fostering a shared understanding among team members and stakeholders. Conceptual design collages also provide a platform for experimentation and exploration, allowing for the visualization of design possibilities before committing to a specific direction.
The perspective offers a captivating view from the East Boston Greenway, strategically showcasing the seamless integration of the greenway's circulation with the first floor of my building. The design emphasizes a thoughtful connection, allowing a fluid transition from the vibrant outdoor space to the dynamic interior. The jagged facade, deliberately crafted, serves as a unique architectural feature that not only contributes to the building's aesthetic appeal but also offers an array of diverse views.
