2. Senior Architect, Arup 2018-Present : Architecture Work

I joined Arup at 2018. In Arup, apart from Design Management I have also been working as Senior Architect across various sectors, including Commercial, Leisure and Transport, RIBA Stages of Works 0-6, and have proved myself to be highly effective in both leading concept design as well as the multi-disciplinary coordination of large, fast-track, multi-disciplinary construction projects.

Llanelli Wellness and Life Science Village Concept Design, RIBA Stage 2

I worked as Senior Architect as part of Arup's team for Carmarthenshire County Council to define the brief for Phase 1 work at the Llanelli Wellbeing and Life Sciences Village and to develop the design to RIBA Stage 2, Concept Design. I coordinated a team including Fire Engineering, Accessible Design, Acoustics and Lighting. Multiple stakeholder presentations were part of my role. The Health and Wellbeing Hub integrates a unique breadth of activities in a single building, with the aim of improving outcomes for the Llanelli community. The first phase of development will comprise a 24,000m2 Hub, a 575 space car park and a new pedestrian/cyclists bridge. A series of five two and three storey buildings connected by an enclosed street, with views across the lake and west to the estuary and Swansea Bay. Two distinct building typologies - shallow plan and deep plan - accommodate both wet and dry sports, and healthcare, education and business incubation. A predominantly timber frame solution with solid laminated timber upper floors was explored at Stage 2. The environmental design solution adopted makes maximum use of daylight and natural ventilation, and allows for more intensively serviced solutions where required. Low energy strategies and the incorporation of renewable energy generation reduce operational costs and generation of CO2. The proposed development is an aspirational, high quality, sustainable development, with a timber frame solution, bespoke floor solution, high grade, bespoke external and internal elevations, maximising daylight throughout, and a tempered 'street' space with a glazed roof.

Llanelli Wellness and Life Science Village Stage 3 Developed Design

Between between 2019 and early 2020 I worked as Senior Architect to develop RIBA 3 design proposals through a series of engagements with representatives of the client body and end users. These have included: • CCC leisure teams and executive which included visits to the current exemplar facilities at Carmarthen • Hywel Dda University Health Board representatives • CCC energy, sustainability and engineering leads • Dyfed-Powys Police designing out crime officer. These inputs have been material in understanding the operational requirements of the Hub and in refining the brief and space budget to align with the available funding.

I worked with the team to ensure materials specified for the building are appropriate to the setting, and provide a robust, attractive and low maintenance building. The roofs are profiled metal and green/brown roofs, with photovoltaic panels generating electricity. I also developed 3d studies and technical Revit Stage 3 details for various parts of the building, including the roof to the central Street. It comprises 50% glazing and is designed to flood the space with daylight reinforcing its ‘inside-out’ character.

Main Works Civil Contractor [MWCC]; Design & Built, Detailed Design stage. Arup as part of Design House team has been appointed for the Main Works and Civil Works for 11 headhouses, which are the surface-built environment that support the HS2 underground tunnel shafts. Between 2020 and 2021 I worked as a Project Architect responsible for the Detailed Design delivery of South Ruislip and Euston Cavern HS2 Headhouse Assets. My role and responsibilities also included multi-disciplinary coordination and face-client meetings; as well as developing the Internal Common Details Packages across all assets. Software used was Microstation.
