The "Studio and Theatre Hall" project represents the first-semester endeavor of the fifth academic year within the framework of the Architecture Design Workshop. This project was executed in collaboration with Nitu Doru.
The architectural concept for the studio hall is based on the idea of creating an oasis of peace and comfort for the audience by reducing the outside noise, resulting from the building's location near the street "Calea Floresti", and by offering an outside area open to the public, which can be flexible according to the needs of the performance. To achieve this, the front of the building will be enclosed with a noise-blocking facade that is decorated to create a visually attractive presence. Behind this facade, the building has an open courtyard that can be used for several purposes, such as: - a seating area for spectators before or after performances. - a stage for outdoor performances. - a picnic area or bar to serve drinks and snacks. The courtyard is designed to be easily adaptable for different needs, using modular furniture and the possibility to add or remove different elements to change its appearance and functionality.
Also, to create a pleasant atmosphere for spectators, the building has attractive lighting and interior design. in addition, we have taken into account aspects such as accessibility for people with disabilities and modern ventilation and air conditioning systems to ensure a comfortable environment for spectators and performers.
Around the main auditorium, there will be a corridor that will provide flexibility for actors during performances, allowing them to manipulate props and make various interventions. This corridor will be located on two sides of the hall so that it can be quickly accessed by actors on stage. The positioning of the hall also allows the use of the sheets as corridors during performances, depending on the configuration of the hall. To maximize the flexibility of these corridors, the following aspects are taken into account: storage spaces for props and equipment, preparation areas for actors, access to toilets and other facilities. All these elements will contribute to the smooth running of the performances.
The building has a flexible main foyer that can host various events such as art exhibitions. This foyer is located in the entrance area of the building and will provide a welcome area for spectators. We also have a secondary foyer that connects to the outdoor courtyard. This secondary foyer will be located near the auditorium and connects the auditorium to the courtyard. In order to maximize the flexibility of these foyers, we have considered the following aspects: - modular furniture that can be repositioned according to need. - storage areas for equipment and materials. - lighting and sound systems that can be controlled to create different atmospheres. - access to facilities such as toilets and serving points for drinks and snacks. These elements will help to create functional and flexible venues that can accommodate different events and provide comfort and service for spectators.
The main auditorium is flexible and allows for several scenarios of use. This is achieved by designing a hall that is easy to reconfigure as needed, using modular furniture and mounting systems that allow for quick changes of set design and sound and lighting equipment, a movable stage that can be placed in different positions to allow for different performance arrangements, and modular audience areas that can be adjusted to change the capacity of the hall. All these elements contribute to creating a flexible performance hall that can accommodate a variety of events and meet the needs of different audiences.
