The "Urban House" project is part of the second-year design studio project, first semester, titled "Urban House, Rural House." Two working sites were provided, as the project title suggests, one in the city and one in the countryside. My clients were a family of botanists, passionate about plants and research, which led me to pursue an intriguing and bold concept.
In the current context, characterized by a subdued and tranquil ambiance, the architectural concept of the "Urban House" is founded upon the notion of harmoniously coexisting two contrasting elements by enveloping a concrete block with vegetation. This concept draws its inspiration from Max Paintner's painting titled "The Unending Attraction of Nature," which conveys a profound message to society, foretelling a future in which nature will only exist in "captivity," much like the animals in zoo gardens. This revelation has inspired me to create the grid surrounding the house (the enclosure), thus creating the inverse of Paintner's painting. By employing a "green enclosure" that engulfs the concrete cube (the house) and transforms it into the creature within the enclosure.
