"Rainbow" - Airport Road of a City

Year: 2017

Category: Landscape & Urbanism

Government Award-winning Project: A rainbow concept was used to develop and beautify the connecting airport road of Vijayawada. An airport is a modern-day gateway to a city. We chose each color to represent a region thus weaving a rainbow out of different hues. Each hue was to emotionally connect to the characteristics of the peoples of that region but be a part of a composite whole forming a soft radiant rainbow. Location - India

Representing Characteristics and Emotions as Colors

The capital of a state or a country is comparable to a brain in a human body. The brain receives inputs from all its organs and in turn, it makes decisions and allocates resources to ensure that the body functions to its true potential. The objective of the design philosophy of the NH landscape project was to present this synergetic relationship between the Brain – the Capital and its organs – the different Regions of the state. The existence of either of them is dependent on the other. We found Rainbow to display similar characteristics. The Rainbow is made of seven broad colours. Without those colours, the Rainbow loses its existence. Independently each colour will not awake similar response that a Rainbow – as a collective- presents.

Potential to knit Streets and Communities

In the fast-paced present world Airports have taken over from ports and railways, the role of Gateways to cultural and economic between a region and the world beyond. Through this landscape design concept we want to present the world and the country, that together, only together, we can and will move into the future to build a better and beautiful state which will truly represent the aspirations of all the regions of the state.
