We designed this office for Tantra, which is engaged in the foreign exchange portal sector, and enjoys a presence across time zones — Mumbai, Abu Dhabi and London. The most important word that drove the brief was ’collaboration’, and the design attempts to celebrate that in various ways. The 15,000-sq-ft office is completely open; they are no cabins and no cubicles. The floor plate is largely taken up by organically shaped, multi-armed pods of varying configurations. Each pod is devoted to a different client. Within this organization are scattered discussion tables crowned by lush planters which create islands of serenity within the high-energy workspace. The Tantra workspace is a modern office space that is distinguished by its views and sunlight. The layout is designed to accommodate both collaborative and independent work areas, while the café provides a spot for employees to relax and enjoy the views.
The Tantra work style is high on collaboration, and the largest manifestation of this is what we call the collaborative well — which is actually a semi-circular lounge that partially surrounds a circular café. The area, which possesses an easy, friendly vibe, serves as a spot for casual meetings or independent work. At times, the café-lounge also functions as a town hall for larger gatherings.
Structural columns, which can ‘interfere’ with a visual narrative, are cleverly put to use at the Tantra office by using them as anchors for a desk cum seating element. A continuous wooden band, now gently inclined, now sharply angled, creates a standing desk, a table-and-bench combination and a high bar-style counter… A design highlight that introduces a playful element into the space!
The Tantra office offers a variety of experiencers for the team. For one, there are beautiful views from the extensive glazing that are a constant companion to the other spatial elements. The board room is a good example. On the other hand, comfortable lounges allow them moments of respite from work to catch up family and friends, or simply unwind. Exposed brick expanses introduce warmth in the spatial narrative. Deliberately left unadorned, they function as art themselves.
