The pet evacuation center is a unique architectural project that was created to help owners who have to evacuate their pets during a disaster. The building is designed to be a safe place for pets to stay while they (pets and owners) are displaced from their homes. Owners can have the common space to help them get through the emotional distress caused by the disaster.
The design of the new pet shelter allows for easy access by both pet owners and their pets. The wide entrance allows for larger numbers of pet owners and their pets to enter, which has resulted in a higher number of adoptions. The shelter is situated in a busy area, which allows for easy visibility and interaction with the public.
The area for the cats is designed in which cats can socialize and play. The platforms are attached in between breadths of walls and could multifunction as plant platform when building is not in used as an evacuation. The design is based on the idea that cats need both physical and social stimulation in order to be healthy and happy, and that by providing them with a space where they can interact with other cats, they will be better able to have a healthy refuge.
