Year: 2020

Category: Hospitality Architecture

Skills: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop, 3ds Max

Site Location: Sukhshagar, Dinajpur Area: 6529 sq. ft. Concept: Unfolding A Restaurant to Enhance Social Interaction. The restaurant, located on the bank of a large water body, was designed to integrate with the surrounding environment by incorporating local materials and addressing site-specific challenges. The site had a contour on the east side, a water body on the west side, a road to the south, and a hangout space to the south of the restaurant. The hangout space surrounds the water body, and the restaurant was designed to complement the beautiful landscape and natural ecosystem surrounding it. In terms of aesthetics, the restaurant design combines modern and sustainable elements, translating theoretical eco-architecture into reality. The design also prioritizes the use of local materials and addresses site-specific challenges, creating a connection between modernism and sustainability.

West Elevation

One of the standout features of the restaurant is its elegant elevations, inspired by the work of architect Frank Gehry. The west elevation features semi-outdoor spaces, providing an excellent view of the landscape and the setting sun from a height of 15 feet on the first floor.

Plan

The primary objective of the restaurant design was to enhance social interaction by creating spatial variation inside the restaurant for different user groups. The design includes a corporate zone, family hangout zone, and casual semi-outdoor hangout zone, catering to a diverse range of customers. To create privacy in different zones of the restaurant, a variety of transparent and translucent glass was used, allowing natural light to flow in and adding to the commercial look of the restaurant. The design was intended to unfold naturally, like any organic object, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The restaurant's ground floor includes a kitchenette, a pantry for storing snacks and dairy products, a soft drink station, and casual seating arrangements. On the first floor, there are heavy-duty dining areas for the different types of user groups, as well as a heavy-duty kitchen. The toilet and wash zone were designed to separate them from the service area, ensuring guests enjoy their meals in a clean and hygienic environment. The kitchen zone was designed for maximum efficiency, with roof lights installed to improve natural light and a separate service entry for the kitchen and service stairs to keep them separate from the user group. The design's objective was to create a unique and memorable experience for customers, and it has achieved this by incorporating a variety of different spaces and zones for social interaction, efficient and well-planned kitchen and service areas, and an overall aesthetic that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
