Jogjakarta is a big city in Indonesia and known as creative city because of lots of creative people lived there. As a big city , a major problem in Jogjakarta is still struggling with waste crisis, and one way to solve this problem is to make a creative program and create art from waste material (major waste in Jogjakarta is from metal, plastic, and paper). Therefore the intention of this project is to make a makerspace or studio with Up-cycling as the main theme. Up-cycling itself is a process of transforming old or discarded materials or products into new, often higher-value items, with the aim of reducing waste and environmental impact. This program designed for adults and kids in Jogjakarta and to educate them to think innovatively and creatively.
The goal in this project is to creating a space that encourages creativity and innovation, while also create a sustainable and innovative solution that can be used to treat waste from a variety of sources. These programs are structured based on the needs of the creative process, starting from brainstorming/research, then creating works and sharing to give inspiration to others, and because this project is about up-cycling, there is also provide a waste treatment room to manage the waste.
This project is located in Jogja National Museum Bloc (JNM Bloc). In the middle of this site, there is a huge Banyan tree is a huge and the oldest Banyan tree in all over Jogjakarta. The tree growth at the center of the site area, which has the potential to give visitors a good natural view.
This is the visualization of how the design looks like after being developed from the existing. The design intention is to modernize the look of the building while still keep in touch with waste, shown through the wood facade that made from reclaimed ironwood. Under the huge Banyan tree there is also includes a courtyard in the center of the building that is used for events and gatherings.
Site plan of this project after being developed was designed to be interconnected and the landscape is planned to be more organized.
The room layout was arrange by the room function connectivity to make it easier accessible by the user.
The roof used is a sloping roof with a slope of 10 degrees, which creates different heights in the rooms due to the slope. On the 2nd floor there is no ceiling covering, this allows for a more open feel in the building, and also makes it easier to heat and cool the space.
Gallery is composed of truss system and core. The core is a central support structure located in the middle of the gallery and the truss system centered on the core. This structure is used with the aim of obtaining a column-free space.
