Welcome to Washington D.C! Your next stop is 610 Rhode Island Ave NE, Bryant St. The site you're arriving to will be part of the new development for Bryant St. It sits on the border of an area that was once part of two nineteenth-century estates -Edgewood and Eckington. Its history intertwines with U.S. history from the days of Native Americans through the 1600s, Civil War, and early 20th century. The site currently holds 2,000 parking spaces, a two-level movie theater, and a pedestrian bridge to rhode island avenue metro station. Futher out from the site there's a run down powerplant, and plenty natural vegetation. For nearby commercial services there are a couple of restaurants owned by both larger franchises and locally such as McDonalds, Seafood boils, etc. Rhode Island Avenue is a principle arterial in the local and regional classifications of the roadway network.

Washington, DC

Before starting the process, I focused on inclusion in the design to gentrify a community. Earning affordable housing was one of my first thoughts when creating this mixes used. Much more consideration of the residence and community being involved in this building is what I had included in the design process. Making sure to support small local businesses, affordable living, community gathering/outreach, access to medical facilities, and help for the unhousing.

Structure

The main structure of the project is made out of mass timber. Mass timber is a high-tech material that merges organic materials with technological aspects. This gives people who visit or live in the unit a place to view the natural texture.

First Floor: Commercial

The goal of the first floor is to accommodate the community and the residence. To provide much use needed to not only to those who live in the building but the surrounding block so and other housing units. it helps with distance knowing some useful facilities can ba father and it helps unify a community with what space that can be utilized. with the same goal to also help with financial giving the space and opportunities for residence to either create or have there small businesses (commercial condos). The primary goal is to accommodate in anyway to help avoid gntrifiying a community, and to help the growth of everyone whos part of the community.

Second Floor: Clinic

i decided to incorporate a clinic on the second floor. This is an idea that'll help so much in the community as easy access to health care. When researching clinics around the area, or the need of medical assistance providing a clinic for the community is what will help a significant amount of people whether residence or those who live around the block.

Third Floor: Unhousing Unit

This floor is specifically for those needing housing and other unfortunate circumstances. It's a space they'll stay in temporarily until they have the means and can get to better, stable, and financial positions. It also connects with the clinic to help with what the residents meet needs.
