Re-thinking a Mother Baby Clinic

Year: 2021

In this project, I focused on human-centered design and explored the therapeutic relationship between art, architecture, and nature. I designed an exterior healing garden to research and chose one curtain color in the exam room. Staff and patients' basic physiological needs are considered. So I designed each exam room where the patient can feel clean, cheerful, well-lit, and quiet.

Moreover, the hospital medical staff would encourage outdoor spaces for healing and stress reduction in my design. This double skin structure creates several semi-public outdoor healing gardens: each one enables two to four people to sit, backs against the tree with their coffee

I taught kids how to draw twice a week in my community. Based on my personal teaching experience, I believe in the therapeutic potential of art. I design an Art Lounge that attaches to the leading clinic where kids can draw and bring their masterpieces to the exam rooms on the wall.

Art enables kids to send messages to doctors and nurses, expressing thoughts, memories, and dreams. Moreover, a kid's design within the exam room can create a comfortable environment connected to the staff and patient community. Art in patient rooms and public areas has a civilizing influence; it also increases patient compliance with recommended treatments and reduces use of pain medications.

The building is not intended to replace conventional therapy; instead, it serves as a caring environment to provide emotional support and practical advice.I reconsidered the identity of my clinic; it not only uniquely serves the city but also incites the human sensation within the community.

Moreover, I invite natural light to the building's interior, blending the boundary of nature and people through several windows that allow light to pour into the central public space and corridors. In addition, all the staff working zones are near the exterior of the building to get access to natural light. Warm light in corridors, patient rooms, and treatment rooms creates a more home-like, less institutional atmosphere.
