Studio 6 - The Old Mill

Studio 6 - The Old Mill

In my sixth semester, students were tasked to adaptively reuse an old mill known as the Paisley Mill The concept with my reuse was to create a space to expand and further, develop the community of Paisley whilst respecting the forms and materials of the original building. the proposed reuse uses similar materials to that of the existing mill to create a sense of harmony with both the existing and proposed forms.

Architectural Studio 4 - Fire Station #09

In my fourth semester, students were tasked with proposing a new fire station off of ninth line. The main idea with the fire station I worked on was to create an appealing-looking building from the outside so it wouldn't impede the surrounding neighborhood whilst also making the interior function efficiently. We also designed landscaping such as a park and bike path to further help tie in the fire station with the neighboring community.

Building Renovations - Melba Drive Renovation

Building Renovations - Melba Drive Renovation

The objective of this renovation was to improve the family space for the new homeowners that are a growing family of four. With a budget of $300,000 - $400,000, they would like an addition that is limited to a total built area of 2700sf. With this addition, they would like a home office space to complete their work as a teacher and legal aid. Another requirement is for a kitchen large enough to eat breakfast in with a good amount of natural lighting. They also want an eating area away from the TV because they enjoy eating in the quiet. The family would also enjoy plentiful space in the backyard for physical activities as well as a nice recreation room in the basement for when it gets cold in the winter. An additional bedroom was also requested by the family.

Studio 4 - 1056 Queen Street West

Studio 4 - 1056 Queen Street West

The proposed building was designed with the intent of capitalizing on the great open view that the site has off Queen St. West and Fennings St. Upon further researching the site we determined that the sun does indeed get a great amount of Southern sun throughout the best parts of the day, so we decided to make large stepping terraces along S.W. corner of the site. In doing so we created many spaces that act as backyard replacements which are integral features In the design. Whilst designing the terraces we also decided to make them green spaces, in doing so it further emphasizes the overall backyard replacement idea which we had, and this greatly improves the livability of each space. I also decided to create parapets that had planters in them, to further enhance the sustainability of the building. Large glazing spaces are used to connect the inside and outside of each unit, this allows for a good amount of borrowed sunlight to enter the units. Each unit is relatively spacious with an open concept kept in mind; this is to ensure the space to get a good amount of borrowed light in the unit. We also wanted to incorporate large green garden spaces so each resident could get a good view of the city.

Architectural Visualization Projects

Architectural Visualization Projects

In my sixth semester, students were tasked with various visualization projects to further enhance their architectural visualization skills. The first set of visualization projects was tied in with the region of Halton and their future road widening plans. They supplied students with the task to create intriguing sets of post-produced renders for their road widening plans. The second set of projects dealt with the creation of a project based on a real skill competition. I decided to design my building based on the glamping project and created a building that had a unique shape and that is in tune with the nature surrounding it.
