This master plan sees the creative reworking of the Typhoo Tea Factory and its wider belt into a district of attraction. The concept relies on the principle of a series of magnets, design to draw people in at both local, regional and national scales and therefore solving many of Digbeth’s core issues. This will operate at all scales through the promotion of creativity and exploration. - both self contained and a destination.
This project builds up on the Urban Magnet master plan. It seeks to desegn a creative hub that is included in the master plan proposal while retaining the existing building. The Hive will support creative individuals at all stages of their journey - from enthusiasts and recently graduated to established personnel. The Hive aims to provide a wide range of facilities as well as create a space that would encourage the formation of a community spirit in order to improve the living conditions in the area. It aims to attract not only businesses but also students from BCU who want to strengthen their creativity skills outside the university as well as locals who have nothing to do with the creative industries but simply want to gain new skills and explore their abilities. The Hive would act as a platform to boost the socio-economic fabric of Digbeth.
