"TOMATO EXPRESS" Center for promotion of value addition of vegetables
The proposed project takes place in Matale town, Sri Lanka and its primarily an agricultural area. Matale is prone to 35% of post harvest losses due to improper packaging, poor transport arrangements, and uncoordinated harvesting leading to glut, etc.. by introducing and promoting value addition, farmers can be aware about the importance of mitigating food waste and also value addition. The center also provide awareness and training for communities on vegetable and food preservation via passive dehydration. Passive dehydration is a cost effective method for preservation and also saves energy which is an alternate solution to help with the current energy crisis in Sri Lanka.
