Affordable Housing 2025 NEW YORK

Year: 2025

Category: Residential Architecture

The architecture of the building derives from the regular structural layout of a clear rationalist imprint, but the arched design of the overhangs recalls sinusoidal lines and linear flows, with glass parapets, flower boxes and vertical steel columns that connect the overhangs and stiffen them. The shape of the tower finds the right balance between the dimensions in plan and the height, the tallest towers in the world are in Dubai and China while in New York the One World Trade Center skyscraper has a height of 541 m. The materials used and the design of the tower give it the characteristic of modernity and functionality as required for a building that has to be constructed. The vegetation and plants present in the flower boxes mitigate the environmental and urban impact resulting from a 30 floors building, a sort of tree to be inserted in the urban center of a large metropolis.

Elevation

The elevation highlights the vegetation, the flowerbeds, the protective glass for the parapets, the regularity and symmetry, as well as the large openings. It is evident that the steel structure does not have steel braces since the wind and seismic forces are entrusted to the reinforced concrete walls and the partitions, as there is no interaction between the structure and the infill.

Type floors plan

The structure is made up of 8 modules in each of which 3 accommodations have been created, 2 of which have a surface area of 65 m2 to be used for single couples, with a child or singles, while a 130 m2 accommodation is to be used for a family unit of 4 or 5 people. The accommodations are functional and have been designed as an open house for both the living area and the sleeping area, protecting the privacy of both the couple and the children.

Section

The section highlights the underground car park whose construction is necessary for to problems related to the stability of the equilibrium of tall buildings in the dynamic interaction between the ground and the structure. It concerns the hanging tanks, all the tall towers such as the one in Pisa in Italy and the structure of the lighthouses on the sea that could overturn for to subsidence of the foundation soil such as rotation at the base due to wind or seismic action. The inter-floor is approximately 3.50 metres, the floors above ground have a thickness of 30 cm sufficient to not overload the steel pillars with vertical load by transferring it to the concrete cores and to the reinforced concrete partitions covered with fake wood metal.
