San Francisco has been known as one of the most innovative cities in the world. This project is inspired by this city’s culture, technology, and creativity of its unique communities. This studio focus is driven by its program, a communal space that disrupts the typical shared workspace culture in a hyper-density area, emphasizing food production.

Based on location development and its context, the project combines multi-functional spaces that can be transformed from public to semi-private. The program includes a vertical farm, offices, and a series of kitchens for food production. These functional spaces are packed into two volumes that contrast each other conceptually: opaque and transparent, solid and perforated.

The marketplace occupies the ground floor and pours onto the West and South sidewalks with minimal tectonic interruption. Circulation is organically choreographed from indoors to the outside of the building, except for the rooftop farm. The vertical farm carries monumental and symbolic meaning for the building and the community. Users always have a visual connection to almost everywhere in the building.
