The Badjao Floating School is my undergraduate thesis that is situated in the shores of Talabaan, Zamboanga City, Philippines. This study explored the factors contributing to the Badjao community’s difficulty in obtaining quality education that is culturally and socially responsive. It also aimed to formulate a self-sufficient and sustainable structure that incorporates the necessary components for a more effective learning environment, utilizing sustainable adaptive architectural strategies.
The main objective of this research is to create a “Sustainable Floating School” with the application of suitable design strategies to improve the physical learning environment, thus providing a progressive learning environment that adapts the Badjao’s culture and environmental and social diversity.
The Micro Site Analysis will be consisting of Sun & Wind Patterns, orientation, utility lines, road access, climograph and topography of the chosen site, etc.
The Structures utilizes and maximize the effects of natural ventilations by using different kinds of passive design strategies and also mechanical.
The Structure extensively uses local materials such as bamboo for structural members and a pontoon platform composed of PVC barrels to provide buoyancy to the structures.
