A New Take-off of an Abandoned Airstrip, Feni Old Airfield, Bangladesh

Year: 2024

Category: Cultural Architecture

Skills: Photoshop, SketchUp, AutoCAD

This project reimagines the abandoned Feni Airfield in Bangladesh, a pivotal site during the Burma Campaign of 1944–1945, into a museum that honors its historical significance while driving community and economic growth. Once a strategic outpost for the Tenth Air Force’s 12th Bombardment Group, the airfield has languished in neglect for 75 years, its legacy overshadowed by encroachment and unplanned development. The design draws inspiration from the bold, linear form of the runway, symbolizing the strength and resilience of World War II. Exposed structural elements reflect the decay of time, blending history with modern architectural expression. Through engaging exhibition spaces, visitors will uncover wartime stories—from underground bunkers to the sacrifices of Bengali people—fostering a deeper understanding of a shared history. Complementary amenities like a library, cafeteria, and auditorium enhance the space’s community appeal. This adaptive reuse project bridges the past and the present, transforming an abandoned site into a vibrant cultural landmark. By preserving its history and revitalizing its purpose, the museum aspires to promote unity, inspire reflection, and foster sustainable growth for future generations.
