Aviemore’s new performing arts centre, nestled in the cairngorms of Scotland, offers an exciting opportunity for visitors and local residents. The ground floor façade is draped in treated fluted copper cladding and has been carved at the entrance to give the illusion of stage curtains opening, as the visitors enter the building. The smooth copper provides richness and elegance, contrasting the surrounding rugged landscape. The use of frosted glazing on the second floor open studio provides an exciting glimpse of the interior function within the performing arts centre. The exterior displays silhouetted dancers in the studio, forming a connection with the public while still being private. The warm light creates a beacon and projects from the building, illuminating the exterior surroundings. Overall, this creates an atmosphere which is a warm, welcoming retreat for visitors, especially during dark and cold Scottish winters.
