LAURA is a therapeutic retreat for spiritual and physical rejuvenation. The resort is immersed in the natural salt and desert of the Dead Sea. It is built with carving of spaces in the stone and 3D printing of furniture with salt compounds, all inspired by the organic structures naturally forged in the area over millions of years on the surface and beneath it. A guest at LAURA will feel encompassed by these shapes, achieving a state of tranquility where profound spiritual connection and meditation can occur.

The Dead Sea is a saltwater lake bordered by Jordan to the east and the Judaean Desert of Israel to the west. Being the lowest point on earth, and one of its saltiest bodies of water, it is famous for its many health benefits, mostly treating skin and breathing conditions. Since childhood, The Dead Sea has been a favorite place of mine. The biblical landscapes and the solitary atmosphere are like no other. The shapes and textures of the salt crystals spurred my imagination and inspired me to /imagine LAURA project. The recent appearance of large sinkholes along the shore, caused by the decreasing water level, creates new and evolving depths in the landscape. I see special importance in showing beauty and finding serenity, even in the harshest environments.

‘Laura’: The Greek word is employed by writers from the 5th century to distinguish the monasteries of the Judaean Desert, which hold historical and spiritual significance to this day. Those were usually carved in the mountainside and consisted of communal areas surrounded by a cluster of spaces or caves for hermits and monks. Life in Lauras focuses on personal reflection and meditation.
