The design of Mirror Play Pavilion is inspired by distorting mirrors which are popular attractions at carnivals and fairs. The continuous mirror ribbon reflects and distorts the ever-changing surrounding environment, and attracts pedestrians to interact with the optical illusions. Everyone can approach, understand, and play with the pavilion in their own way. For structure and construction, the 8ft tall mirror ribbon will be divided into multiple molybdenum stainless steel plates and fabricated individually for each piece’s unique curvature. The pieces then will be welded, grinded and polished into a single mirror ribbon before being transported to the site. The mirror ribbon will be directly fixed into cast-in-place concrete base on site. A piece of brushed stainless steel plate will be welded and attached on the top of the mirror ribbon as roof protecting it from weather. The pavilion will be a distorting mirror of the changing world, so people can perceive things around them with a new vision.
