In response to the limited presence of skill and training in the Grimsby town center and the unique temporal nature of the offshore labor force in the North Sea region, this project aims to propose and design a modular and systematic housing scheme. This innovative approach utilizes prefabricated construction methods that are easily assembled and repurposed to meet the dynamic needs of offshore workers, including those in the oil and gas, fishing, and wind energy industries Modular and Rapid-Adaptation Housing: The central goal is to provide transient housing for offshore workers while considering the ever-changing nature of their presence and the materials and services required in the area. It challenge the conventional concept of "temporary" in housing policy by creating a system that can adapt rapidly to environmental and economic crises. Scaffolding City serves as a prototype for a metropolis rooted in human development history but embracing future forms of synthetic urbanism. Economically Minded Design: Scaffolding City encourages resource-consciousness and economic sustainability. By maintaining low material costs and fostering a system open to novel applications and techniques, individuals are empowered to reinterpret materials and establish secondary and tertiary economies around material transfer and transformation. This approach supports a thriving local economy while minimizing environmental impact. Connective and Adaptive Urban Planning: Rather than relying on rigid urban planning, Scaffolding City's development strategy is guided by access to resources, local economic conditions, and environmental factors. This adaptable urban model prioritizes connectivity and proximity to resources, allowing it to evolve organically. Scaffolding City can be described as a mobile and customizable planning system that can be moved from site to location, making it a versatile solution for diverse environments and needs. This innovative approach allows to carefully consider the impact of sunlight on the form and arrangement of buildings, ensuring that residents enjoy the best possible living experience. Harnessing SunPath Analysis: SunPath analysis is a critical tool in design process. It enables to calculate the number of hours that our housing units receive direct sunlight, using precise sun vectors. By understanding how sunlight interacts with buildings, it can optimize the arrangement of core spaces, dwellings, and services to maximize comfort and quality of life for our tenants. A Future of Sunlit Serenity: As move forward with housing project, I dedicated to utilizing cutting-edge technologies and innovative design approaches. SunPath analysis is just one example of how strived to create homes that not only meet the basic needs of tenants but also enhance their overall quality of life. Grid-Based Flexibility: Each unit offers a maximum of 15 grids of 1-meter floor area to be occupied. At the heart of our innovation lies the modular pod, constructed from a kit of parts. This kit is ingeniously designed to be easily disassembled and reassembled, giving residents the flexibility to modify their living spaces as their needs evolve over time. Whether it's reconfiguring the layout, replacing components, or expanding the space, our modular pod system empowers residents to take charge of their living environments like never before. The circular hollow section not only adds a unique visual dimension but also enhances the structural integrity of the housing units. Calculating the Imposed Load: The strength and stability of our scaffolding-inspired housing design hinge on the precise calculation of the imposed load it can bear. Here's a simplified breakdown of the calculation: Load Assessment: thoroughly assessed the anticipated loads on the housing units, taking into account factors like materials, occupancy, and environmental conditions. Circular Hollow Section Analysis: The circular hollow section, chosen for its structural efficiency, was subjected to rigorous analysis to determine its load-bearing capacity. Safety Margins: Safety is paramount. Our calculations incorporated generous safety margins to ensure the housing units could withstand unexpected stressors or fluctuations. Graphic Illustration for Clarity: For ease of comprehension and transparency, I have created a graphic representation of the load calculation. This visual aid provides a clear and concise overview of how our scaffolding-inspired design can safely support the needs of offshore workers in transitory housing.
