These days numerous schools for children use the Montessori curriculum. Beyond the boundaries of the curriculum, we architects also try to apply Montessori principles to this school building design. In the spirit that children should be encouraged to think for themselves, we want to create an environment for children to learn optimally at school even outside the classroom and not just from what is written on the book and board. This design pays attention to 5 aspects including Physical Development (Dynamic), Cognitive (Creativity), Affective (Fun), Psychomotor (Activity), and Socio-Environmental. _____Note_____ This project is supervised under Andyrahman Architect Principal: Andy Rahman Architect in Charge: Fithrotul Mumtaz & Reny Rahayu
The facade idea was originally inspired by the colorful and dynamic Lego Puzzle arrangement, with the shape of the building having curved geometry to make it a child-friendly visual.
Classroom of the future. In this class, children are given freedom to express and explore creativity on the boards along the both side walls (non-formal board).
Children in particular, are not yet trained to ignore their instinctive glance-yearn for the outside connection. The transparent windows and storage allow them to see what other children are doing and know where they are in the school.
Children are naturally quick in absorbing knowledge from their environment. From the entrance, they will go through a zebra crossing to go to the next area. This is also an education for children to cross the road on the right track. Small child-scaled space. There are 2 entrances in the reception area, the main door and the small door. Children are naturally drawn to small-scaled areas where they can feel competent to cope with new challenges. This design specifically provides small scale to enable children's sense of security, control and ownership of the environment.
