Remastered Academic project of 2015 Design Studio V - High Rise exercise. The name of the hotel is translated into Korean language to mention the honor of my design studio professor, mentor and a friend, Dr. Chuloh Jung.
One of my earliest successful academic works, inspired by a little insect, called Dubai on Arabic language. Dubai means Locust, the city was given such a name, because its lands were flooded with this insect. It was a good source of nutrition and a solid argument to settle down in these lands and to put an end to nomadic life. Big successful things always come from tiny ones, and, in my opinion, a tiny Locust was one of the factors, which made Dubai inhabitable.
The hotel's facade has an aluminium cladding on the southern sides with organic, locust wing-like engraved unique pattern on it. The anchor facility is located on the top of the parking podium and represents a grand restaurant. In the middle of the hall there is an enormous glass terrarium with locusts and other local insects. The shape of the terrarium metaphorically reminds the cocoon of the locust.
The hotel's right wing structure bears a floating podium with luxury amenities, including infinity pool, spa saloons, bars, restaurants and a night club with panoramic view of Dubai.
The left wing structure of the hotel bears an outdoor VIP lounge with private access elevator. The elevator core structure is exposed to the building's exterior.
