VANTAGE: ANNEX TO THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, WASHINGTON, DC Vantage is a technologically advanced, sustainable, and elegant Library of Congress Annex. The program unfolds as a journey towards enlightenment, with each floor organizing program progressing from intrigue to investigation, discovery, reflection, and finally enlightenment. Each level of the plan also addresses a component of the Library of Congress mission statement. The façade design illuminates two contrasting but significant aspects of enlightenment, which is interaction with others and individual reflection and discovery. With a focus on efficiency, Vantage features a central automatic retrieval book system and takes advantage of Northern light. Ultimately, Vantage offers visitors the option to experience different perspectives, from the many reading room environments to the program components that allow visitors to interact with the archive materials in a variety of ways. Completed in partnernship with Claire DeMarco as part of IBDS (Integrated Building Design Studio).
The following board illuminates the concept for an annex to the Library of Congress inspired by enlightenment.
