Project

soft, softer, softest

Year: 2022

What is softness? We can understand the tangible qualities of softness and we’ve all interacted with soft elements in our lives. But what is the representation of softness and how can we design for it? This project is a visual conversation that attempts to communicate and define the term "soft" in an architectural context. It's a primitive and naive aesthetic that tries to question the ongoing conversation of thickness by adding thinness to the conversation. As building construction and related industries contribute to nearly 40% of green house gasses every year, anything goes as to where the future of building construction will hurdle towards. We can consider materials such as fabrics or polymers which are easier to recycle and less carbon intensive to produce. When the building industry was developing more efficient methods of producing steel, concrete and glass, textiles and polymer sheets have been both improved in durability and reliability. This project is far from a prediction of the future, but just an ongoing conversation to ask the real question: "is there potential to this?"
