This was the fourth project completed in my first year of Architecture studio at the University of Illinois. The goal of this project was to successfully draw and 3D model the roof of the St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral and transform it using the skills we learned throughout the semester on Rhino 7.
The image above is a 2D isometric drawing of the St. Mary's Cathedral roof. The roof was created using lines that were lofted to create a 3D surface with each section of the building from the bottom to the cruciform at the top being lofted together. To create the interior, the lines used to create the exterior were offset and lofted in the same manner as the exterior.
The transformed St. Mary's cathedral was designed in a way to incorporate a similar method in creation using the loft feature on Rhino, however, to move away from the large crucifix formed at the top I created a triangle at the top that the middle layer was lofted to.
The St. Mary's Cathedral shows the symmetrical form of the cathedral roof as well as the crucifix form at the top
