Year: 2019
It was named 《Summer Pavilion》 because it will trend to use a lot in the summer and also according with our assignment that required both breathing wall and grey space. At the processing time collapsible shell blow our mind, therefore we decided to suppose the final form as a piece of shell. Breathing wall, is an installation created by Najla El Zein Workshop in 2014. Breathing wall is an interactive installation that takes the shape of a 3D wall surface made out of diamond shape modules. The original concept of the breathing wall was of internal air flowing out through the wall to reduce the concentration of indoor air pollution. Grey space, began to appear after the mid 1980, and student now use this term to indicate space under the gallery and transition space. The original of the word in China is very clear, from Japanese architect Kurokawa Kiso.
This pavilion was transformed from computer generated geometry to reality. This pavilion had to be planned in the manner that was flexible, site specific resources and within a specific timeline.
The structure was generated through the use of parametric algorithms in computer software, we used Lunchbox in Grasshopper.
One of the significant challenges is that we do not have software expertise and fabrication knowledge and skill. So we decide to begin with Plywood. These kind of flat sheets are also excellent material for teaching the design of complicated architectural shapes since they can simply be cut using laser cutter, which are one of the most available digital fabrication tools in the campus.
Material and cost: 1. Plywood 14 sheet of 1x1m plywood 36 yuan/sheet, total 504 yuan cut to 114 triangle pieces cutting cost 271 yuan 2. Round wood 50 sticks, cost 400 yuan cut into 169 segments cutting cost 1000 yuan 3. Wire bundle, 70 yuan 4. Wood tar, 88 yuan 5. Other, 200 yuan Overall: 3K yuan
