RESHAPING THE FUTURE OF PLASTIC WASTE

Year: 2021

Plastic garbage has emerged as one of the world’s most pressing environmental and economic issues. Every year, humans spend over $120 billion to produce over 311 million tonnes of plastic waste, but only 8% of that waste is recycled. The remaining 92 percent is either landfilled, blocking key infrastructure in communities, burnt, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, or leaks into our streets, oceans, and waterways. It’s probably time for us to reconsider our unsustainable relationships. Plastic is a material that is relatively affordable to produce, durable, and versatile, and may be used for a wide range of applications.
