Urban Forestry Knowledge Center
The Urban Forestry Knowledge Center (UFKC) is a proposed center focused on education, research and the growth of genetically modified trees that can endure the threats of a changing climate. This long-timber building is essentially a place to develop climate mitigation strategies based on urban reforestation and is situated in the Dow’s Lake/experimental farm area in Ottawa. The UFKC is comprised of workshops, meeting rooms, research laboratories, as well as a circulating greenhouse dedicated to growing tree seedlings. The project also includes a permaculture landscaping strategy for growing experimental seedlings and promoting the return of biodiversity through the use of wetlands and follies.
Project was conducted by Carleton University, under the first semester of the MArch Gateway Studio.
